ACCESS TO THE HIELO AZUL AND BARDA NEGRA PEAK

Peak Hielo Azul

This peak is located at 2250 meters above sea level.

From the Hielo Azul top you can see the Osorno and Puntiagudo volcanoes which lie in Chile, The Tronador mountain and many other mountains of the range as well as the Bolsón Valley.

It has two used access. The shortest goes through the Glacier. This is a technical excursion due to the equipment you need to go on the glacier and the experience of mountain climbing in such conditions.

The usual one is longer but without any technical difficulties other than a good sense of direction and some mountain experience. The first part of the track goes in the direction of the Lago Natación refuge hut. From then onwards you leave the forest behind and take a westerly direction climbing along a ridge which you should follow till you get to the top. This access is not marked and for this reason you are recommended to have some mountain experience.

Peak Barda Negra

This peak is at 2150 meters above sea level. It is a part of the Hielo Azul mountain and is located on the south side of the Glacier.

There is no need to have technical knowledge or equipment to go along the main access. The track is not marked. Nevertheless using your common sense you will get to this beautiful peak from which you can get a superb view of the Raquel River Valley, the Glacier, the Chilean Volcanoes and other peaks of this mountain range.
